A Vision for BVVA’s Future

As the Commander of the Blackstone Valley Veterans Association, I am honored to lead an organization rooted in respect, camaraderie, and service. My vision for BVVA is to expand our reach and connect with veterans of all generations, especially the younger veteran community.

In today’s world, it’s vital to bridge the gap between generations of servicemembers. Younger veterans face unique challenges as they transition to civilian life, from navigating career paths to finding mental health support and building new communities. At BVVA, we are dedicated to addressing these needs while honoring the traditions and sacrifices of all who have served.

My Goals for BVVA:

  1. Expand Our Reach: Proactively engage with local veterans and create partnerships to make BVVA’s presence known throughout the Blackstone Valley.

  2. Connect with Younger Generations: Build programs and events that resonate with younger veterans, offering flexibility, family-friendly options, and modern resources that fit into their lives.

  3. Enhance Resources: Continue providing access to vital resources like financial readiness tools, mental health support, career assistance, and local nonprofit programs.

  4. Foster Community: Strengthen the bond between veterans of all eras by creating opportunities for shared stories, mentorship, and support.

Reaching younger veterans isn’t just a priority—it’s essential for the future of our organization. Their perspectives, energy, and experiences enrich our community and ensure BVVA remains a vital force for generations to come. By building these connections, we not only honor their service but also provide them with the tools to thrive.

Together, we can create a stronger, more united BVVA where every veteran, regardless of age or background, feels valued, supported, and connected. Let’s continue to honor the past while shaping the future—together.

About the Commander

Mike DeFazio
Commander, Blackstone Valley Veterans Association

As a medically retired Navy veteran, I have dedicated my life to service—both in and out of uniform. My journey began with eight years of honorable service in the Navy, a time that shaped me as a leader and instilled in me the values of camaraderie, resilience, and purpose. After my medical retirement, I channeled my experiences into serving others, particularly my fellow veterans and first responders.

Today, I am proud to lead the Blackstone Valley Veterans Association (BVVA), where I strive to foster a community where no veteran stands alone. My work with BVVA is guided by a deep commitment to honoring the legacy of service, bridging generational gaps, and providing veterans with the resources and connections they need to thrive.

In addition to my role as Commander, I am the Founder and Executive Director of An Officer and Two Gentlemen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering disabled veterans and first responders through therapeutic snowmobiling experiences. My passion for outdoor adventures, particularly snowmobiling, has allowed me to connect with veterans in a unique and meaningful way, helping them rediscover purpose and camaraderie.

Beyond these leadership roles, I am currently pursuing higher education, working toward degrees in business management and nonprofit leadership. This path reflects my dedication to continuously improving the ways I serve my community and empower others.

As the Commander of BVVA, my mission is to connect with veterans of all ages, especially younger generations, to ensure they feel supported, valued, and part of a lasting legacy. My vision is to build a stronger, united veteran community that honors the past, supports the present, and inspires the future.

Together, we can create a place where every veteran has the tools, connections, and support to thrive.
